Le prêt étudiant garanti par l'Etat a été accordé à plus de 6.600 étudiants depuis son lancement à la rentrée 2008, un chiffre encore "insuffisant", a déclaré aujourd'hui la ministre de l'Enseignement supérieur, Valérie Pécresse, qui souhaite qu'il soit davantage connu.

"Nous avons la possibilité de faire 20.000 prêts et nous n'en avons fait que 6.600. Ce n'est pas suffisant", a-t-elle déclaré en rencontrant, dans une agence de la Banque populaire, à Paris, des étudiants ayant souscrit ce prêt.

"La dynamique est lancée, mais le dispositif n'est pas assez connu. Je vais utiliser le réseau des Crous pour faire passer l'information", a-t-elle dit.

Le nombre de crédits a presque doublé en cette rentrée, avec 4.197 prêts octroyés contre 2.408 à la rentrée 2008, pour un montant moyen de 8.100 euros, soit 53 millions d'euros de financement au total.

Le prêt a surtout été utilisé dans les grandes régions universitaires, Ile-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur et Rhône-Alpes.

Ces prêts d'un montant maximal de 15.000 euros sur 10 ans maximum, assortis d'un taux de 3,8 ou 3,9% actuellement, sont accordés sans condition de ressources ni caution parentale, après examen d'un projet de l'étudiant, qui doit avoir moins de 28 ans.
