Sheffield, Newcastle, Cambridge, Manchester Met, London: student resistance to fees and cuts spreads…Activists on an ever-increasing number of campuses across the UK are launching actions - including meetings, rallies and demonstrations - against fees, cuts and the marketisation of education. Read on for more details.
Sheffield
The University of Sheffield Campaigns Collective, a forum bringing together a wide range of left-wing activist and campaigning groups on campus, is holding a meeting on Tuesday 1 December to organise opposition to the cuts that the university is proposing in order to claw back some of its £25m deficit (these include the closure of the entire Biblical Studies department). The meeting will also continue Sheffield's activist tradition of linking day-to-day issues to the university's extensive links with the arms trade and will be asking whether some of the money invested in arms companies might be better spent keeping departments open. The Facebook event for the meeting is here.
