L'IUFM a eu chaud. Il a bien failli disparaître, emporté par la réforme de la formation des maîtres et son pédagogisme jargonnant. « Il est vrai que nous avons été critiqués, admet Philippe Girard, directeur en Aquitaine de cet institut qui forme les futurs professeurs. Mais ces attaques ne portaient, en réalité, que sur quelques excès. Il est certain que l'IUFM peut s'améliorer. Mais la plupart des acteurs de l'éducation disent que les enseignants n'ont jamais été aussi bien formés qu'aujourd'hui. »

Prof à bac + 5

Et pourtant l'IUFM va changer. La réforme de la formation des maîtres ou « mastérisation » est en cours. Avant cette rentrée 2009, ceux qui voulaient être enseignants passaient un concours après avoir obtenu une licence (bac + 3). Mais ils étudiaient souvent un an de plus pour préparer ledit concours, notamment au sein de l'IUFM. S'ils avaient la chance d'être reçus, ils suivaient alors une année de stage rémunéré à l'IUFM, avec formation en alternance, dont un tiers en responsabilité devant des élèves. À partir de la rentrée 2010, les professeurs devront avoir un master universitaire (bac + 5) pour enseigner et passeront le concours durant la deuxième année de master. Une fois le concours obtenu, ils seront placés directement en responsabilité dans des classes les deux tiers du temps pour leur première année d'enseignement.

« Cette plongée brutale des étudiants dans l'enseignement est l'une de nos inquiétudes. La mastérisation n'a pas que des défauts. Et l'IUFM y jouera un rôle clé dans la formation. Mais il faudra probablement trouver les moyens de mieux préparer les étudiants au métier d'enseignant que ce qui est envisagé pour l'instant. Le contenu des épreuves du concours sera également essentiel. Soit il portera sur des connaissances strictement académiques, comme aujourd'hui, soit il jugera aussi des capacités d'un candidat à enseigner », ajoute Philippe Girard.
